Premiere of the Leger- en vlootfilm
In August 1916, Willy Mullens was commissioned by the Ministerie van Oorlog (‘Ministry of War’) to make a propaganda film showcasing the efficiency of the Dutch army. Mullens got to work and filmed the army, the navy and the air force during their drills and exercises. The highlight of the film is an inspection of the troops by Queen Wilhelmina.
The film, titled Leger- en vlootfilm, premiered on 9 January 1917 in the Residentie-Bioscoop in The Hague in the presence of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Hendrik. The film was an enormous success and established Mullens yet again as a filmmaker.
