Nederlandsche Bioscoopbond Established
In February 1918, several cinema directors joined together in the Bond van exploitanten van Nederlandsche Bioscooptheaters. This union was formed to stand up for the interests of cinema owners against the local governments – against the arbitrariness of the local censorship boards and taxes that were too high, in its opinion.
In January 1919, the example was followed by the film distributors, who joined together in the Vereeniging van Filmverhuurkantoren. In July 1921 both organizations merged into the Nederlandsche Bioscoopbond (NBB); its first chairman was David Hamburger, Jr.
The NBB would grow to become the most powerful organisation in the Dutch film world and would determine the goings-on in Dutch film for decades.
