The First Dutch Film: Gestoorde hengelaar
On 28 November 1896, the showman Christiaan Slieker screened the first films made in the Netherlands. These were three shorts: Gestoorde hengelaar, Spelende kinderen and Zwemplaats voor Jongelingen te Amsterdam. The latter film showed the recently opened swimming pool on the Heiligeweg in Amsterdam, which is the oldest indoor swimming pool in the Netherlands.
The films were made by the photographer, M.H. Laddé, who had his own studio in Buiksloot in northern Amsterdam.
