The Scene Machine

The Scene Machine is a playful website full of film fragments from EYE’s collection where you can explore the exceptional films found in the collection in an intuitive way. You select several individual key words or an already composed playlist. The Scene Machine then continuously serves up surprising combinations of film images.

The Scene Machine is loaded with hundreds of fragments from EYE’s Dutch film collection, most of which are from before WWII: colour and black and white, animation and live action, fiction and non-fiction.

The Scene Machine’s goal is to introduce visitors to EYE’s film collection in a new, accessible way. The original idea for the Scene Machine was developed by interaction designer Dima Stefanova and filmmaker David Lammers (Langer Licht, Bellicher: de macht van meneer Miller) during a Stifo@Sandberg workshop. Additionally, there is also an interactive installation revolving around this website called the Scene Machine Live. This installation can be set up at festivals.
