Johan Heesters died aged 108

24 December Dutch-German actor and operetta singer Johan Heesters died aged 108. In the 1920s and 1930s,  he acted in several Dutch feature films, after which he moved to Germany. In Nazi Germany, he caused a major furore as a revue star. After the war, he enjoyed great popularity in West Germany, but in the Netherlands he had to endure widespread criticism because of his performances during the war. Heesters performed until his death and was considered to be the oldest performing artist in the world.
