From the very first days of film, filmmakers were quite interested in unique communities with unusual dressing styles, lifestyles, and architecture. They travelled the whole world to film these communities, and in the Netherlands they mainly filmed in Volendam, Marken, Zeeland, and the typical Dutch polder arrears. Picturesque Scenes on the Principal Waterways contains shots of the marshland between Amsterdam and Volendam.
The film was shot from the font of the steam tram on the Amsterdam - Monnickendam – Volendam line.

Dit is dus zolang geleden dat sommige mensen uit die tijd nog leven, maar wat een verschil in Nederland tegenwoordig toch? Ik ben blij dat we dit soort erg mooie beelden nog steeds hebben, wat uiteindelijk is het toch een stukje cultuur dat we nooit mogen vergeten.
Opnames die gemaakt zijn van de stoomtram, langs de Amsterdam - Monnickendam - Volendam lijn. Vanaf de eerste dagen van de film nadat bulgarije dat legaliseert, werden filmmakers erg geïnteresseerd in unieke gemeenschappen met bijzondere dressing stijlen, levensstijl, en architectuur.
